Intro

No cup of tea is quite the same. With each brew, we discover different tastes and aromas.

Making a good cup of herbal tea is simple. The amount of tea you use, the water temperature and the steeping time can all affect the final flavour.

Here are five simple steps for brewing loose-leaf herbal tea at home.

Step 1: Start with good water

For the best-tasting tea, use fresh, good-quality water.

Bring the water to the appropriate temperature for the herbs you are brewing. Freshly boiled water works well for many herbal teas, but more delicate herbs can benefit from slightly cooler water.

Step 2: Use the right water temperature

Water temperature can make a difference to the flavour of your tea. For most herbal teas, hot water just below boiling is a good starting point.

For delicate flowers and leaves, such as chamomile and mint, you may prefer slightly cooler water. If the water is too hot or the tea is steeped for too long, some delicate herbs can develop a stronger or more bitter flavour.

The best temperature can vary depending on the plant and the blend, so experiment with your tea and find what you enjoy most.

Step 3: Use the right amount of tea

As a starting point, we recommend around 1 g of herbal tea per 300 ml cup.

You can adjust the amount according to your taste. More tea will give you a stronger flavour, while less tea will make a lighter cup.

Step 4: Give the leaves room to open

Loose herbs and leaves need space to expand and release their aroma and flavour.

A spacious basket-style infuser or a teapot with a large infuser works particularly well. Avoid small tea balls that compress the herbs too tightly.

Step 5: Let it steep

Pour the hot water over the herbs and cover the teapot or cup while the tea is infusing. This helps keep the aroma in the cup.

For most Anousha herbal teas, 5–10 minutes is a good starting point. You can adjust the time according to the blend and your preferred strength.

Then strain, pour and enjoy.

A teapot with a spacious infuser is one of the easiest ways to brew loose-leaf herbal tea.

Glass and ceramic teapots are both good options. The most important thing is that the infuser gives the herbs enough room to expand.

A basket-style infuser is particularly useful because the leaves and flowers can move freely as they infuse.

Is there a simple way to brew tea when I don’t have much time?

Absolutely.

You can simply place the herbs directly into a large cup or mug, pour over hot water, cover and allow them to steep for around 5–10 minutes. Strain before drinking, or use a simple basket infuser.

There’s no need to turn tea-making into a ceremony. A good cup can be as simple as that.

How to make iced herbal tea

You can also enjoy your Anousha herbal tea cold.

For a refreshing cold brew, add the herbs to cold water and leave them covered in the fridge for several hours, preferably overnight.

For a quicker method, brew the tea with hot water and then pour it over ice.
